Absinthe Frappe Recipe

First created in 1874 by Cayetano Ferrer at Aleix’s Coffee House in New Orleans, this classic cocktail has been enjoyed by some of the greatest writers, artists, and musicians New Orleans has seen. A great alternative to the Sazerac this cocktail is the perfect way to enjoy Absinthe!

  • 50ml of Absinthe
  • 2 tsp of Simple Syrup
  • 75ml of Soda Water
  • Mint Leaves
  • Crystalised Mint Leaves, for garnish


  1. Add the mint leave to a cocktail shaker and gently muddle
  2. Top up the cocktail shaker with ice and add the absinthe and simple syrup
  3. Shake until the cocktail shaker is cool to the touch
  4. Strain into a glass filled with crushed ice
  5. Top with a splash of soda water
  6. Garnish with mint leaves, or for a more modern take on this classic cocktail garnish with crystallised mint leaves
