How to make a Mai Tai

Mai Tai Cocktail Recipe

Mai Tai Cocktail Recipe

Whilst there are a number of different versions of the mai tai cocktail recipe, this recipe is based on the original Trader Vic’s recipe that features aged rum, and a rich, rock candy simple syrup.  First created in 1944, this cocktail is the perfect rum cocktail for warm sunny weather, and with a name that comes from the Tahitian phrase “mai tai-roa aé” which translates to “out of this world – the best!” you know it’s going to be good!

  • 50ml of Aged Rum
  • 3 tsp of Orange Curaçao
  • 25ml of Lime Juice
  • 2 tsp of Almond/Orgeat Syrup
  • 2 tsp of Simple Syrup
  • Mint sprig, Lime Wedge or Maraschino Cherries for garnish
  1. Add all of the ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice
  2. Shake until the cocktail shaker is cool to the touch
  3. Strain into a glass filled with crushed ice
  4. Garnish with a sprig of mint and lime wedge, you could also add some Maraschino Cherries if you want a more exotic looking cocktail
